Akio Fujimoto (b. 1988 in Osaka, Japan) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter known for socially engaged cinema. He studied psychology, sociology, and filmmaking before debuting with PASSAGE OF LIFE (2017), winning awards at the Tokyo IFF. His later films ALONG THE SEA (2020) and LOST LAND (2025) premiered at major festivals like San Sebastián and Venice, where the latter earned the Orizzonti Special Jury Prize and a best-director nomination.
