FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER is a feature film, though carefully constructed in the form of a triptych. All three stories concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. FATHER is set in the Northeast US, MOTHER in Dublin, Ireland, and SISTER BROTHER in Paris, France. The film is a series of character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental – a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy.

Jim Jarmusch (b. 1953) based in New York, is a key voice in American independent cinema. His films are minimalist, character‑driven, deadpan, and often steeped in music and dark humour. After Columbia University, he moved into film school, eventually making PERMANENT VACATION (1980) and the breakthrough STRANGER THAN PARADISE (1984), which won major prizes at Cannes and Locarno IFFs. Later works like DOWN BY LAW (1986), DEAD MAN (1995), BROKEN FLOWERS (2005), PATERSON (2016), THE DEAD DON'T DIE (2019). FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER is his recent film.
