In a post-apocalyptic future, a woman emerges from brain surgery and finds herself in a semi-conscious state, the world around her laid to waste. She comes upon the motionless body of an android and decides to tell it the history of China. Slowly, with each passing night, the robot’s senses are restored. When her stories arrive at the present, she faces a dilemma: should she return to the real world, or should she follow her heart and remain with this machine?
ಅಪೋಕ್ಯಾಲಿಪ್ಟಿಕ್ ಯುಗಾಂತ್ಯದ ನಂತರದ ಭವಿಷ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಮೆದುಳಿನ ಶಸ್ತ್ರಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯಿಂದ ಹೊರಬರುವ ಮಹಿಳೆ ಅರೆಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾಹೀನ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೆರೆಯುತ್ತಾಳೆ — ಅವಳ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಪ್ರಪಂಚವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹಾಳುಬಿದ್ದಿದೆ. ಆಕೆ ಚಲನರಹಿತವಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದಿರುವ ಒಬ್ಬ ಆಂಡ್ರಾಯ್ಡ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಚೀನಾದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಕಳೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಂತೆ, ಆ ಯಂತ್ರದ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳು ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಪುನಶ್ಚೇತನಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಅವಳ ಕಥೆಗಳು ವರ್ತಮಾನದ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿದಾಗ, ವಾಸ್ತವ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮರಳಬೇಕೋ ಅಥವಾ ಯಂತ್ರದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉಳಿಯಬೇಕೋ ಎನ್ನುವ ಒಂದು ಗಂಭೀರ ಆಯ್ಕೆಯ ಮುಂದೆ ಅವಳನ್ನು ತಂದುನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತವೆ.

Bi Gan (b. 1989 in Kaili, China), is a film director and poet of the new wave of Chinese cinema. He gained international recognition with his debut KAILI BLUES (2015), screened at Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary, and Busan IFFs, winning Best New Director at Locarno and the Golden Horse Awards. His second feature, LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT (2018), was selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes and also screened at Rotterdam and Toronto FFs. Known for dreamlike imagery, long takes, and meditative explorations of memory and time, Bi Gan’s films are noted for their poetic cinematic language.
